England Netball Workshop

In 2010 England Netball announced the launch of a series of new CPD workshops targeted at their national network of coaches. Conceived and written by some of England’s leading netball coaches, each workshop targets a specific area of player and game development. The workshops make it possible for regional and club coaches to access and experience performance level practices and principles, including the latest advances in attacking and defending tactics, and strength and conditioning for netball.

England Netball sought to provide their network of Regional Excel Coaches with a resource from which they could review each course being delivered by the master tutor, enabling them to refresh their current knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of the technical content in each workshop.

The overall aim for England Netball was to set a new standard in course delivery, seamlessly using video, presentations and other interactive resources to make the learning experience more engaging and rewarding for candidates.

Ultimately, England Netball recognises that to produce world class athletes, the organisation needs world class coaches on the ground, using the latest resources, knowledge and up to date playing footage.

The Solutions

Into Sport Group approached the challenge of supporting and improving coach education from a number of different angles.  To support the Regional Excel Coaches in learning the workshop content in detail, Into Sport Group produced a series of Tutor Training DVDs based on footage captured from live delivery of each workshop by England Netball Master Tutors. The DVDs include extra tips for setting up each workshop, preparing facilities and course equipment and practical advice for getting the best out of the course.

In raising the standard of course delivery, Into Sport Group recognised England Netball’s desire to maximise the benefit of technology and media whilst also being aware of the technical challenge this would present to some tutors. The response was to create a 'one stop' resource, containing video content, presentations and other materials for each workshop.

Into Sport Group implemented its unique Gateway solution.  This resource delivers complex technology such as video clips and presentations in a simple and easy to navigate tool, making the workshop more engaging and professional, improving the learning experience and providing a range of content choices to the tutor.
